The Call of Cthulhu is getting a 3D book cover and will now come with 3D glasses (for real)

Vintage Classics is going to release some old school sci-fi books with gimmicky new 3D covers, and one of the first up will be The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Tales by H.P. Lovecraft. Don't get me wrong, while it's a gimmick, I think it's a great gimmick. I'm totally sold on this. Here are the details from their press release:
On the 5th of May 2011, Vintage Classics will publish a selection of acclaimed science fiction, newly jacketed with a beautiful design that comes to life when viewed through the 3D specs included in each copy. From the weird and unsettling alien world of H. P. Lovecraft's The Call of the Cthulu and Other Weird Tales to The Lost World, Arthur Conan Doyle's sojourn into a forgotten land of prehistoric creatures, this other-worldly selection will transport you to strange universes, and sometimes remind you of concerns that are closer to home...
THE CALL OF THE CTHULHU / H. P. Lovecraft (£8.99)
'The twentieth century horror story's dark and baroque prince' - Stephen King Between these pages you will find thinks that lurk, things that scurry in the walls, things that move unseen, things that have learnt to walk but ought to crawl, unfathomable blackness, unconquerable evil, inhuman impulses, abnormal bodies, ancient rites and nameless things best left unknown. You have been warned.
I was never too psyched about the idea of seeing Tom Cruise in a 3D movie version of At the Mountains of Madness, but this is a wholly acceptable alternative. For now.
